Summit crater lakes
At the top of the volcano, Lake Voui and its neighbouring lakes lie within the summit area, a rare cluster of inland water at the very centre of the island's outline.

La carte
Aoba Island Map Poster & Print
Aoba, today officially known as Ambae, lies in northern Vanuatu between Espiritu Santo and Maewo. The island is essentially the exposed top of a large volcano, and from above it reads as an elongated oval running roughly southwest to northeast, with the land rising steadily from every side toward a central summit ridge.
At the crest lies the Manaro volcano, whose summit area holds crater lakes including Lake Voui. Eruptions in 2017 and 2018 led to the evacuation of the island's entire population, who later began returning to their villages. Most settlements and roads keep to the gentler coastal lowlands, well below the summit.
An Aoba Island map poster shows a clear, almost symmetrical form: a thin ring of coastal tracks, streams running down the flanks, and at the centre an open summit where the lakes sit. It is a simple image of how a volcanic island is built, from the shoreline up to the crater.

Streams down the flanks
Watercourses run down the volcano's slopes in many directions, giving the map a subtle radial pattern that reveals the island's cone-like structure.
Coastal settlements
Roads and villages are strung along the lower slopes near the shore, forming a loose loop that traces the island's long oval outline.

Pourquoi Aoba Island
Une carte qui a du sens
Aoba speaks to people from Penama Province and to those who followed the evacuation and return of its communities. For others it is simply a beautiful volcanic form, clear and balanced, that sits well in almost any room.
The title can read Aoba or Ambae, followed by a subtitle and a date or the coordinates line of your choice. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand; Noir gives the outline a strong, graphic contrast.
