La carte
Bananeiras Map Poster & Print
Bananeiras sits in the Brejo Paraibano, a region of hills and valleys in the interior of Paraíba that is higher, cooler and greener than the dry country around it. From above, the town does not follow a grid. Streets follow ridges and slopes, bending around the land and dropping into small valleys.
The historic centre keeps buildings from the period when coffee and other crops brought prosperity to the Brejo, and the old railway, including a tunnel cut through the hills, is still part of local memory. On a map, the centre appears as a compact cluster from which roads leave in winding lines towards the surrounding farms and villages.
A Bananeiras map poster shows the shape of a town fitted to its terrain. Its mild climate and historic streets have made it a popular retreat for visitors from João Pessoa and Campina Grande, especially during the June festivals, when the region fills with music and celebrations.
