Kirtankhola riverfront
The river curves along one side of the city. The wharves and launch terminal on its bank form the busiest edge of the whole composition.

La carte
Barishal Map Poster & Print
Barishal sits in the delta of southern Bangladesh on the banks of the Kirtankhola River, and water shapes the city plan more than any road does. From above, the built-up area follows the curve of the river. Smaller channels cut inland, and many ponds lie scattered between the blocks like small rectangles of open space.
The city is the main river port of the region, and large passenger launches connect it overnight with Dhaka. On a map, the launch terminal and riverfront are where the densest streets meet the water. Roads leading away from the bank thin out into lanes surrounded by fields and more waterways.
Its rivers and canals have earned Barishal the occasional nickname Venice of Bengal, and the description holds up on paper. A Barishal map poster turns that watery landscape into a pattern of curving banks, straight canals and open fields. It frames a city that has always depended on the river for trade and travel.

Ponds and tanks
Many small ponds sit among the neighbourhoods. On a map they appear as neat open shapes that break up the street pattern across the city.
Canal network
Narrow waterways run inland from the river, dividing districts from one another and carrying the character of the delta deep into the city's plan.
