La carte
Batman Map Poster & Print
Batman lies in south-eastern Anatolia, on a plain east of the Batman River, a tributary of the Tigris. On a map the city is strikingly regular: straight avenues and rectangular blocks laid out mostly in the twentieth century, with newer districts extending outward. The river valley runs along the western side, and open farmland surrounds the urban area.
The city grew rapidly after oil was discovered at nearby Raman Mountain in the 1940s, Turkey's first commercial oil field, and a refinery was built here soon after. It became a province in 1990. The ancient town of Hasankeyf on the Tigris lies within the province, to the south-east.
A Batman map poster reflects this modern origin. The orderly grid, broad avenues and industrial areas around the refinery contrast with the curving line of the river valley. It is a clean, graphic city on paper, and one of the few places whose name alone tends to start a conversation when it hangs on a wall.

Batman River valley
The river runs to the west of the city on its way to the Tigris, adding a soft, winding line beside the rigid street grid.
Refinery district
The oil refinery and its surrounding industrial land form a large distinct area, a reminder of the discovery that built the modern city.

Pourquoi Batman
Une carte qui a du sens
For people from Batman, this is simply home, and a precise map of its avenues is a warm reminder when living elsewhere. For others, the unusual name makes it a quietly witty choice for a study or living room.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, in Turkish, Kurdish or English. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download 300 DPI files for $9 or order a printed poster shipped from a regional partner.
