Tea estate blocks
The surrounding gardens form broad, regular parcels bordered by service roads. The composition beyond the town takes on a calm, almost textile-like pattern.

La carte
Birpara Map Poster & Print
Birpara is in the Alipurduar district of northern West Bengal, in the Dooars. This belt of plains lies at the foot of the Himalaya, close to the border with Bhutan. The town is closely tied to the tea industry, and much of the land around it is given over to estates.
On a map, the settlement is a compact cluster of streets near the main road and rail line. Beyond it, the tea gardens appear as large, orderly blocks divided by estate roads, with worker settlements and small factories scattered among them. Streams coming down from the hills cross the plain in shallow, braided channels.
A Birpara map poster shows the unusual combination of a small market town and a planned agricultural landscape. The town's irregular lanes sit inside a much larger pattern of estates, and the rail line cuts a straight path through both. For anyone with roots in the Dooars, the shapes are instantly familiar.

Rail and road
The railway and the main road run through Birpara in long, straight lines, connecting it to the rest of the Dooars and giving the map a clear axis.
Foothill streams
Rivers and streams from the Himalayan foothills cross the plain in wide channels. They add soft, flowing lines to an otherwise orderly landscape.
