Bol'šoj Kamen' Map Poster & Print
Bol'šoj Kamen' is a town in Primorsky Krai in the Russian Far East, on the northern shore of a bay opening into the Sea of Japan, across the water from Vladivostok. On a map the coastline dominates, with the town rising behind it in blocks of apartment buildings and the large industrial area of the shipyard along the shore.
The town grew up around ship repair and shipbuilding, and today it is home to the Zvezda shipyard, one of the largest shipbuilding projects in Russia. For much of its history it was a closed town, and its layout, with planned residential districts and a clear division between industry and housing, reflects that Soviet background.
A Bol'šoj Kamen' map poster shows a place defined by its relationship with the sea. The curving coastline, piers and dry docks form a strong edge, while the regular residential blocks and the hills behind the town fill the rest of the frame. It is a striking composition of water, industry and planned streets.

Large industrial buildings, slipways and basins along the waterfront form a distinct, geometric area, the reason the town exists and grows.
Planned residential blocks
Behind the shore, Soviet-era apartment districts are arranged in orderly blocks, contrasting with the irregular hills and forest around the town.
