Compact desert grid
The streets form a tight, mostly regular pattern. With no suburbs sprawling outward, the town ends sharply and the surrounding plateau takes over.

La carte
Bouarfa Map Poster & Print
Bouarfa is the capital of Figuig Province, in the Oriental region of eastern Morocco, not far from the Algerian border. It sits on the high, dry plateau where the land starts to give way to the Sahara. From above, the town is a compact block of streets on open, almost empty ground. Rocky ridges rise nearby, and there is very little vegetation to blur the edges.
The town grew in the twentieth century, largely around the mining of manganese in the surrounding hills. It also became the end point of the long railway line running south from Oujda. That history shows in the map's straightforward layout: regular streets and practical blocks, with roads leaving in a few directions across the plateau.
A Bouarfa map poster captures the sense of isolation in the place: a small, clear grid surrounded by a lot of empty space. In black and white it looks almost like a technical drawing, with the town as a precise mark on an open sheet.

Railway terminus
The rail line from Oujda reaches Bouarfa, built with the region's mining traffic in mind. Its long approach across open ground makes a strong line on the map.
Nearby ridges
Rocky hills near the town once supplied manganese ore. They add texture to the edges of an otherwise sparse, quiet map.

Pourquoi Bouarfa
Une carte qui a du sens
People who lived or worked in Bouarfa know how unusual it is: a real town on the edge of the desert, with a long view in every direction. A map on the wall brings some of that open space into an ordinary room.
Make it yours with a custom title and subtitle, perhaps in Arabic or French, and your own coordinates line. Sand and Paper suit the plateau's colours, while Classic black & white, Noir and Blueprint give a crisper look.
