Candeias Map Poster & Print
Candeias lies in the metropolitan region of Salvador, in the Recôncavo, the fertile area of low hills and valleys around the Bay of All Saints in Bahia. The town is a short distance inland from the northern shore of the bay. From above, its streets follow the uneven ground, curving between slopes rather than forming a strict grid.
The Recôncavo is where Brazil's oil industry took some of its first steps in the mid-twentieth century. Oil fields, pipelines and industrial sites are still part of the landscape around Candeias. The town takes its name from Nossa Senhora das Candeias, and devotion to her remains central to local religious life.
A Candeias map poster reflects this mixed setting. The town's streets climb and wind across the hills, highways run toward Salvador and the nearby industrial complexes, and mangrove-lined creeks reach inland from the bay. It is a textured, layered composition that shows the Recôncavo in miniature.
