Chākia is a town in the East Champaran district of Bihar, on the wide alluvial plain north of the Ganges. The land is almost perfectly flat, so its shape on a map comes from human patterns rather than terrain. Narrow lanes twist between houses in the older parts, and the town merges into the surrounding villages without a sharp boundary.
Water is everywhere in this landscape. Ponds and tanks appear as small shapes scattered through and around the town, and the fields outside are divided by embankments and tracks.
