The Jacuí River
The broad river runs along the town's northern side and dominates the composition, a smooth dark band that frames the streets and gives the whole poster its orientation.

Charqueadas Map Poster & Print
Charqueadas lies on the southern bank of the Jacuí River, west of Porto Alegre, in the lowlands of Rio Grande do Sul. From above, the town looks like a compact block of streets pressed against the river, with long straight roads running inland toward farmland and scattered industrial sites. The water is the strongest line on the page, a wide band that curves past the town's northern edge.
The name comes from the charqueadas, the establishments where beef was salted and dried into charque, the jerked meat that shaped much of the economy of southern Brazil in the nineteenth century. Later the area became known for coal and steel, and the industrial grounds still show up on a map as large rectangles set apart from the residential grid.
A Charqueadas map poster reduces all of this to line and space. The river takes up its natural weight, the streets settle into a fine mesh, and the edges fade into the rural roads that link the town to its neighbours along the Jacuí. The result is quiet and legible, a portrait of a working town defined by water.

Industrial footprint
Large industrial plots sit apart from the housing blocks, their simple outlines contrasting with the denser grid of residential streets around the centre.
Roads into the pampa
Straight rural roads leave the town in several directions, thinning out into the open lowlands that surround Charqueadas on the southern side.

Pourquoi Charqueadas
Une carte qui a du sens
For people who grew up here or worked along the river, the map holds a lot of familiar ground in a small frame: the streets walked to school, the road out of town, the water always nearby. It suits a hallway, a study or a gift for someone who has moved away.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a family name or a date, and the coordinates line, then choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files for $9 or order a matte print, framed if you like.
