Backwater edges
The town is bounded by estuarine channels on several sides, and these give the map its strongest shapes: long, uneven shorelines that divide the street network into separate pieces of land.

Cheranellūr Map Poster & Print
Cheranellūr sits on the northern edge of the Kochi urban area in Kerala, where the mainland breaks into water. On a map the town has no single centre. Roads run along narrow strips of dry land, and channels and backwater arms close in from the west and north, so the street pattern bends to follow the water instead of any plan.
From above, the lines are dense and irregular. Lanes branch off the main roads toward homesteads, small jetties and coconut plots. The waterways are drawn in the same ink as the streets, so the outline of land against water reads as clearly as a coastline. This is typical of the estuary country around Vembanad Lake and the mouth of the Periyar.
A Cheranellūr map poster records a place in the middle of a change: a lowland village setting that is steadily being pulled into a growing port city. At poster scale the mix of old footpaths, newer arterial roads and irregular shorelines forms a pattern that looks nothing like a grid. It is a quiet, detailed portrait of Kerala's waterside suburbs.

Road along the land
Main roads follow the firmer ground and link Cheranellūr to central Kochi to the south, while smaller lanes spread out sideways toward the water like the teeth of a comb.
Island fragments
Offshore, small islands and reclaimed plots show up as separate shapes in the channels. They add scattered detail that breaks up the paper's blank space in a natural way.

Pourquoi Cheranellūr
Une carte qui a du sens
People who grew up near Kochi, or who spent time on its northern waterways, often know this network by boat as well as by road. The map shows both at once, and it can make a memorable gift for someone whose family home stands beside one of these channels.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example to mark a wedding date or a house address. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint suits the watery layout especially well.
