Chivasso Map Poster & Print
Chivasso lies on the left bank of the Po, northeast of Turin, where the river's wide floodplain meets the gentle rise of the Canavese. On a map the old town forms a compact core. Later districts spread out along the roads and railway lines toward Turin, Ivrea and the Vercelli plain.
Chivasso is the starting point of the Cavour Canal, the great nineteenth-century irrigation channel that draws water from the Po and carries it east to the rice fields of Vercelli and Novara. Its straight course out of town is one of the clearest features on the map, pulling away from the river's looser curves.
The town is also known for the Chivasso Charter of 1943, a declaration on the rights of Alpine communities, and for the small hazelnut biscuits called nocciolini.
