The Kali River
The river curves past the town in wide bends. It is the strongest natural line on the map and the reason visitors come to Dandeli.

La carte
Dandeli Map Poster & Print
Dandeli sits on the Kali River in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, surrounded by the dense forest of the Western Ghats. On the map, the town is an island of streets in a large green area. The river winds past it, and the road network gets thinner as it reaches into the woods.
The town grew around the West Coast Paper Mills, and the mill and its housing colonies still shape parts of the town plan. Dandeli is also the gateway to the Kali Tiger Reserve. The river attracts visitors who come for white-water rafting and to explore the forest.
A Dandeli map poster shows a clear contrast: a compact industrial town, a strongly meandering river, and wide, almost empty forest areas. The winding shape of the Kali River gives the composition movement, and the tighter blocks of the town and mill colonies give it structure.

Mill colonies
The areas built for the paper mill appear as more orderly rows of streets. They look different from the organic lanes of the older town.
Forest edges
Beyond the town, roads become few and far between. Large open areas mark the forests of the Western Ghats and the tiger reserve.
