Devinuwara Map Poster & Print
Devinuwara, also known as Dondra, lies on the southern coast of Sri Lanka just east of Matara. On a map the land narrows to a blunt headland, Dondra Head, the southernmost point of the island, with only open Indian Ocean beyond. The town's streets follow the coastal road and fan out between palm groves, small fields and the fishing harbour.
The name means city of the gods, and the town has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. Portuguese forces destroyed its great temple in the late sixteenth century. Today the Devinuwara shrine still draws large crowds to its annual festival. On the headland stands the Dondra Head lighthouse, completed in 1889 and the tallest in Sri Lanka.
A Devinuwara map poster is a portrait of an ending. The coastline curves in, the streets thin out, and the paper turns to empty ocean. Few maps give such a clear sense of place. For anyone connected to the island, its southernmost point is a meaningful spot to mark on a wall.

Lighthouse point
The Dondra Head lighthouse stands near the shore at the end of the headland. On the poster it is a small, precise mark at the island's last corner.
Coastal road
The main southern road runs through town parallel to the shore. It connects Devinuwara with Matara to the west and forms the backbone of the street pattern.

Pourquoi Devinuwara
Une carte qui a du sens
Some hang this map to remember a visit to the southern tip, others because their family comes from the Matara coast. Either way, a headland ending in open ocean is a striking, simple image. It works as well in a quiet bedroom as in an office.
