Single volcanic cone
The island is essentially one volcano, which gives it its compact, rounded outline, one of the most geometric shapes in the Kuril chain.

Ekarma Map Poster & Print
Ekarma is a small volcanic island in the central Kuril chain, the arc of islands stretching between Kamchatka and Hokkaido. On a map its shape is simple and striking, a nearly round outline built around a single volcanic cone. The land rises steeply from the shore to the summit, so contour-like roundness defines the island more than any coastal detail.
The island is uninhabited, and there are no roads, harbours or settlements to break up the outline. What the map shows is the island's form alone and its place among neighbouring volcanic islands scattered along the chain. In these waters the Sea of Okhotsk lies to the west and the Pacific to the east, and the currents between them are known for fog and strong tides.
The Kurils are among the most volcanically active places on Earth, and Ekarma belongs fully to that landscape. An Ekarma map poster is minimal almost by definition, a single shape surrounded by sea. For admirers of volcanoes, remote islands or the far edges of maps, that simplicity is the appeal.

Part of an arc
Ekarma is one link in the long Kuril chain, and at wider framings nearby islands appear as scattered points along the same volcanic line.

Pourquoi Ekarma
Une carte qui a du sens
Ekarma appeals to people drawn to geology and remote geography. It is a volcano that happens to be an island, far from any road. The print is spare and graphic, closer to an abstract form than a place you would visit.
Add a subtitle such as Kuril Islands, or just the coordinates, and choose Noir or Blueprint for a darker or more technical feel. There are five styles in total. Order a printed poster, optionally framed, or download the files for $9.
