Elefsína Map Poster & Print
Elefsína, the ancient Eleusis, lies on the northern shore of the Bay of Elefsína in West Attica, west of Athens. It was home to the sanctuary of Demeter and Persephone and the Eleusinian Mysteries, one of the most important religious rites of the ancient Greek world, and the playwright Aeschylus was born here. In 2023 the town was a European Capital of Culture.
On a map, the town spreads along the curve of the bay, with the archaeological site forming an irregular open area near the historic centre. Around it, a denser grid of modern streets meets the waterfront, while port facilities, shipyards and industrial plants extend along the coast. Across the enclosed bay, the island of Salamis closes the view to the south.
An Elefsína map poster brings these layers together on one sheet: the sweep of shoreline, the rectangular piers and docks, the open ground of the ancient sanctuary and the tight weave of residential streets. The enclosed bay gives the composition a strong, simple shape, with water filling much of the lower frame.
