La carte
Elsdorf Map Poster & Print
Elsdorf lies west of Cologne in the Rhein-Erft district, on flat, fertile land of the Lower Rhine plain. The town centre is small and practical, with main roads meeting near the church and residential streets spreading out from there. Nearby villages belong to the municipality and appear as separate clusters among fields.
The most unusual feature on the map is right next door: the Hambach open-pit lignite mine, one of the largest in Europe, which borders the municipality and has reshaped the surrounding landscape. Elsdorf is also known for its sugar factory, which processes beet grown across the region, a reminder that this is still farming country.
An Elsdorf map poster holds two very different textures in one frame. On one side is the ordinary pattern of a small German town, with lanes, gardens and a centre. On the other is the huge, smooth void of the mine. In black and white the contrast is stark, and it tells the story of the region in a single image.

Sugar factory
The beet sugar works is a large industrial footprint near town, tied to the fields of sugar beet that cover much of the surrounding plain.
Village clusters
Smaller villages within the municipality sit apart from the centre, each a compact knot of streets surrounded by open farmland.
