The Rio Preto
The river curves along the edge of the town, and its natural line contrasts with the straight streets, giving the map a strong sense of movement.

Formosa do Rio Preto Map Poster & Print
Formosa do Rio Preto lies in the far west of Bahia, and its municipality is one of the largest in the state by area. The town itself is compact and sits beside the Rio Preto, whose curving course runs along the edge of the grid. On the map, the regular streets meet the natural line of the river, making the contrast between planned and natural shapes very clear.
The region around it is part of the agricultural frontier of the Brazilian cerrado, where large-scale farms have spread across the high plateaus in recent decades. At a larger scale, this appears as huge rectangular fields and straight farm roads, while the river valleys remain winding and green. The town lies between these two landscapes.
A Formosa do Rio Preto map poster centres on the town and its river, with the edge of the wider landscape at the margins. It's a map for the families who have lived here for generations and for those who arrived with the farms, showing the place where they meet: a small grid beside a curving river.

Compact grid
The town's streets form a regular pattern of blocks, a small, dense area that stands out in the middle of wide open country.
Cerrado frontier
Beyond the town, the land opens into cerrado and large farms, and the thinning roads at the edges of the frame hint at that vast space.
