La carte
Fröndenberg Map Poster & Print
Fröndenberg lies in the Unna district of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the upper Ruhr, where the river winds through a green valley before reaching the industrial cities further west. On the map, the town stretches along the river's northern side, with streets climbing the slope and wooded hills rising to the south.
The town grew around a Cistercian convent founded in the thirteenth century, later a collegiate foundation for noblewomen, and its church still stands above the valley. Fröndenberg also has a strong metalworking tradition, particularly chain-making, which is recorded in a local museum.
A Fröndenberg map poster follows the curve of the Ruhr and the town's streets that rise from it. The river meadows, rail line and road network make a composition with clear horizontal layers. It reflects a gentler side of the Ruhr region, where river and forest are as present as industry.

Collegiate church
The former convent church sits on the high ground of the old town, the historic anchor around which the early streets were arranged.
Wooded slopes
South of the river, forested hills rise away from the valley, leaving a wide, quiet area of the map almost without streets.
