Gießen Map Poster & Print
Gießen lies on the River Lahn in central Hesse, about an hour north of Frankfurt. It is above all a university town. Justus Liebig University, named after the chemist who taught here in the nineteenth century, shapes the city, and in proportion to its size Gießen has one of the largest student populations in Germany.
On a map, the clearest feature is the Anlagenring, a ring road that follows the line of the old town walls and encloses the centre. Much of the historic core was destroyed in 1944, so the streets inside the ring mix older lines with post-war rebuilding. The Lahn runs along the western side of the city, and university buildings are spread across several campuses.
A Gießen map poster is a natural gift for a graduate. It shows the ring, the river and the streets between lectures in a single frame. The city's botanical garden, founded in 1609 and one of the oldest in Germany still on its original site, sits near the centre, a small green gap in the densest part of the map.

The River Lahn
The Lahn curves along the western edge of the city with bridges crossing to the other bank, a soft natural line beside the geometric ring.
A historic garden
The botanical garden, founded in 1609, is still on its original site close to the centre, an open patch within the dense inner streets.

Pourquoi Gießen
Une carte qui a du sens
Many people pass through Gießen for a degree and keep a strong attachment to it afterwards. A map marks those years, and it is a thoughtful graduation or farewell gift for students, researchers and alumni.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a graduation year, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 HD files include six sizes, or you can order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
