Amazon frontage
The town faces a wide stretch of the Amazon. Its broad water surface fills much of the poster and sets the scale of everything else.

Gurupá Map Poster & Print
Gurupá lies on the lower Amazon in the state of Pará, near where the great river splits into the channels and islands around Marajó. It is one of the oldest settlements in the Amazon region. The Portuguese built a fort here in the early seventeenth century to control traffic on the river, and the Forte de Santo Antônio de Gurupá remains the town's best-known landmark.
The town itself is small, and most of it runs along the riverbank. On a map, a handful of streets sit parallel to the water, crossed by short lanes running inland. Around them lies a huge landscape of water and floodplain forest. Channels, creeks and islands spread in every direction and dwarf the built area.
A Gurupá map poster is dominated by water. The small, careful street grid holds its place on the shore, while the Amazon's wide channels and islands fill most of the frame. It is a striking composition, a record of how a historic river town sits at the edge of one of the largest river systems in the world.

Historic fort
The Forte de Santo Antônio de Gurupá, founded in the seventeenth century, stands at the waterfront. It marks the town's origins as a guard post on the river.
Delta channels
Creeks, islands and side channels branch through the floodplain forest. They form an intricate natural pattern around the small urban core.
