The trunk road
The national road crosses the town as its clearest line, a spine the rest of the street network hangs from, heading north toward the capital and south toward Djelfa.

La carte
Hassi Bahbah Map Poster & Print
Hassi Bahbah lies in Djelfa province, on the high plateaus between the Tell Atlas and the Saharan Atlas. The land around it is wide, dry steppe, and the town appears on the map as a compact built-up area surrounded by open ground. There are no coastlines or large rivers here, so the street pattern itself carries the design.
The town grew along the main road linking Algiers with Djelfa and the south. That road passes through as a strong north–south line, and the blocks on either side are arranged in a fairly regular pattern. Newer quarters spread outward from the older core, and the edges thin into scattered buildings, tracks and fields.
As its name suggests, with hassi meaning well, the place began as a stop at a water source on a route across dry land, and the region's life has long been tied to pastoralism and sheep herding. A Hassi Bahbah map poster shows a modern town set in a large, open landscape.

Regular blocks
Away from the road, the streets form a fairly even grid of residential blocks, which gives the poster a steady rhythm of small rectangles.
Open steppe edges
At the edges the town gives way to empty plateau. The white space around the streets on the poster reflects how open the surrounding country is.

Pourquoi Hassi Bahbah
Une carte qui a du sens
For people who grew up in Hassi Bahbah or have family there, the map is something easy to recognise: the main road, the neighbourhood, the way the town stops where the steppe begins. It is a personal piece and a restrained one.
You can put a family name, a street or a year in the title and subtitle, and the coordinates line can mark the exact place. The five styles are Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand fits the plateau landscape well.
