Grid on hills
The central blocks keep a broadly rectangular layout, but the lines flex to fit the terrain, so the grid looks stretched and bent rather than ruler-straight.

La carte
Ibaiti Map Poster & Print
Ibaiti lies in the Norte Pioneiro, the northeastern part of the Brazilian state of Paraná, a region of hills and farmland opened up to agriculture during the twentieth century. The town sits on uneven ground, and on a map its streets form a grid that bends and breaks where the land rises and falls, instead of stretching evenly over flat terrain.
Around the urban area, the landscape turns into a pattern of rural roads, small streams and farm plots. Country roads wind along the ridges and down into valleys, linking the town to the surrounding countryside, and the green spaces between neighbourhoods follow the natural drainage of the hills.
An Ibaiti map poster captures the meeting of a planned town and difficult ground. The centre is reasonably regular, while the outer streets curve and fork as they follow the slopes. In black and white, the result is a lively, slightly irregular composition that is clearly from inland Brazil and clearly its own.

Valley streams
Small watercourses run through low ground near the town, leaving strips of unbuilt land that break up the streets and add open space to the map.
Farm road network
Beyond the edge of town, unpaved and minor roads wind across the countryside, showing how Ibaiti serves as the hub of a wide agricultural area.
