From above, the town is framed by the wide, braided river on one side and the rocky Kondapalli hills on the other. The main highway runs between them, and the streets spread across the narrow plain.
The area is known for the Dr Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station, whose large site forms a distinct block of geometry on the map.
