Ithaca Map Poster & Print
Ithaca lies just east of Cephalonia in the Ionian Sea, across a narrow channel. On a map it looks like two islands joined together, a northern half and a southern half, almost divided by the Gulf of Molos, which cuts deep into the east coast. The two halves are linked by a narrow, hilly isthmus near Mount Aetos, crossed by a single road.
Vathy, the main town, sits at the end of a long, sheltered inlet off the Gulf of Molos, one of the most enclosed natural harbours in Greece. Its houses line the curve of the bay, and a small islet sits in the middle of the water. From Vathy, roads wind north over the isthmus to the villages of Stavros, Frikes and Kioni in the northern half.
Ithaca is best known as the home of Odysseus, the end of the long journey in Homer's Odyssey, and it has become a symbol of return. Its landscape is steep and green, with small coves and quiet villages rather than large resorts. An Ithaca map poster shows the island's unusual double shape and the deep bay that holds the main town.

The Aetos isthmus
Where the two halves of the island meet, a narrow ridge of land separates the Gulf of Molos from the western channel. The road climbs across it.
Northern villages
In the northern half, small villages such as Stavros, Frikes and Kioni sit above sheltered coves, linked by a road that winds along the hills.

Pourquoi Ithaca
Une carte qui a du sens
Ithaca means something particular to readers of Homer and to anyone who sees it as a symbol of homecoming. It is also a quiet island to come back to, and its double shape is instantly recognisable on the wall.
You can use a line from the Odyssey as the subtitle or add a date that matters to you, set your own title and coordinates, and choose from five styles. A free 900 px watermarked preview shows the result before you order.
