Homesteads on spacious plots create a loose, even distribution of streets and paths, with no tight urban core, giving the map a light, airy texture.

Janeng Map Poster & Print
Janeng is a village in the South-East District of Botswana, in the south of the country near the border with South Africa. From above, it has the open, low-density pattern typical of settlements in this region: homesteads set on generous plots, a loose web of roads and tracks, and wide areas of bush and grazing land in between.
The South-East District is the smallest of Botswana's districts by area but among the most densely settled, lying close to Gaborone and the main routes to South Africa. Villages here have grown steadily, and their maps record that growth through new plots added at the edges and tracks that gradually become roads.
A Janeng map poster is a study in open space. Instead of dense blocks, it shows a gentle scatter of lines across the page, with the landscape itself providing much of the composition. The result is spare and calm, a fitting way to keep a home village in view for those who live nearby or far away.

Tracks and roads
A network of village roads and sandy tracks links the plots, forming irregular lines that branch and meet across the settlement in an unplanned, organic way.
Surrounding bushland
Beyond the last homesteads the land opens into bush and grazing areas, leaving wide white space that frames the village on the page.
