Kieler Förde
The fjord divides the map in two, narrowing toward the city centre and widening northward to the Baltic, a clean, calm shape that gives the poster its structure.

La carte
Kiel Map Poster & Print
Kiel wraps around the Kieler Förde, a narrow inlet of the Baltic that runs south into the heart of the city. On the map the water is the centre of everything: the old town and main shopping streets sit at its southern end, residential districts climb the western shore, and shipyards, docks and ferry terminals line the eastern side.
At Holtenau, the Kiel Canal leaves the fjord and cuts across Schleswig-Holstein to the Elbe estuary. It is one of the busiest artificial waterways in the world, and its locks and straight channel stand out sharply against the curving shoreline. Ferries to Norway and Sweden depart from terminals close to the city centre, their berths visible as long piers.
Kiel is the state capital and a naval and sailing city, host of the sailing events at the 1936 and 1972 Olympics and of Kiel Week, a large regatta held every June. A Kiel map poster captures a city that faces the water from both banks, with the Kiellinie promenade tracing the western shore toward the open Baltic.

Canal locks
At Holtenau the Kiel Canal begins with a set of large locks, then runs west in a long straight line, an unmistakable engineered stroke across the landscape.
Old town and lake
The small old town sits near the fjord's southern tip, close to the Kleiner Kiel, a narrow lake that curves around its western side and softens the grid.

Pourquoi Kiel
Une carte qui a du sens
Kiel appeals to sailors, students of its university, and anyone who has crossed to Scandinavia from its piers. The fjord and canal make an elegant composition that feels maritime even in plain black and white.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a boat name, a regatta year or a first address in Kiel. Choose one of five styles; Blueprint suits the canal and shipyards, while Classic keeps the fjord crisp.
