Kismayo Map Poster & Print
Kismayo lies on the southern coast of Somalia in the Lower Juba region, a short distance south of where the Jubba River reaches the Indian Ocean. On a map, the town sits on a low stretch of shore beside a sheltered bay, with its port on the seaward side. The older quarters are close to the water, and newer neighbourhoods and roads spread inland across the flat coastal plain.
The port has long made Kismayo an important trading town, shipping livestock and produce from the fertile Jubba valley. It is the main city of Jubaland and one of the larger ports in the country. Offshore to the south lie the Bajuni Islands, a chain of small islands running along the coast towards the Kenyan border.
A Kismayo map poster keeps to the essentials: the curve of the coast, the port, the compact grid of the old town and the roads heading inland towards the river. With the ocean filling much of the frame, it is an open, spacious composition. It is also a personal one for families who have held the town's shape in memory from afar.

Old quarter by the sea
The oldest streets lie close to the shore, in a dense cluster of small blocks that prints as the darkest area of the map, set against the open water beside it.
Roads to the Jubba
Routes lead north and inland from the town towards the Jubba River and its farming valley. They form long lines across an otherwise sparse coastal plain.
