Körfez Map Poster & Print
Körfez, whose name simply means gulf in Turkish, lies on the northern shore of the Gulf of İzmit in Kocaeli Province, west of the city of İzmit. The town follows the shoreline in a long, narrow strip, with hills rising steeply behind it.
From above, Körfez is drawn in parallel lines: the gulf, the coastal road and railway, the motorway and then the hillside neighbourhoods climbing inland. Along the shore, large industrial sites, piers and port facilities break the coastline into straight-edged shapes, including one of the country's major oil refineries.
The district also includes Hereke, a coastal town long famous for its fine silk carpets, once woven for the Ottoman court. A Körfez map poster records this working coastline: a string of neighbourhoods, industry and harbour structures along one of Turkey's busiest waterways.

Industrial piers
Refinery and port facilities push straight-edged piers and jetties into the gulf, contrasting with the natural curve of the shore.
Parallel routes
The coastal road, railway and motorway run side by side between the water and the hills, creating a strong horizontal rhythm.
