The open pit
A huge excavated hollow sits next to the town. Its terraced walls create concentric lines that make the map instantly recognisable and give it a striking centre.

La carte
Korkino Map Poster & Print
Korkino lies south of Chelyabinsk in the southern Urals. Its defining feature is a vast open-pit coal mine next to the town. It is one of the deepest such pits in the region, and on the map its terraced sides draw rings of contour-like lines around a huge hollow. The town's streets wrap around this pit, and the whole settlement seems shaped by it.
Beyond the mine, the town follows a pattern common in Urals industrial towns: blocks of housing, straight main streets, rail sidings and industrial zones. Lakes and flat land in the surrounding area give way to fields and small birch groves. The pit is no longer actively mined in the same way, but it remains the town's most recognisable landmark.
A Korkino map poster is unlike any ordinary town map. The pit gives it a strong central shape, and in black and white the stepped walls read almost like a topographic drawing. For people with roots in the town, it captures the industrial landscape that defined work and life there for generations.

Rail and industry
Rail lines and industrial sites run along the pit's edge. They reflect the coal mining that built the town and connected it to Chelyabinsk.
Housing blocks
Residential districts with straight streets and larger blocks spread out beside the mine, giving the map an orderly contrast to the pit.

Pourquoi Korkino
Une carte qui a du sens
For families from Korkino, especially those connected to its mining past, a map of the town is a portrait of home and of hard work. Its unusual shape also makes it an interesting piece of graphic design.
You can add your own title and subtitle, such as a name or a year, and edit the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir suits the drama of the pit especially well.
