La carte
Kotlas Map Poster & Print
Kotlas lies in the south of Arkhangelsk Oblast, at the confluence of the Northern Dvina and the Vychegda. On a map, water dominates: two broad rivers with sandbanks, side channels and flood meadows meet on the edge of town, and the built-up area sits on the higher ground along their banks.
The town grew around the railway, which reached Kotlas at the end of the nineteenth century and made it a transfer point between rail and river transport for the Russian North. Tracks, yards and a port area still structure the map, while residential districts spread in regular blocks inland from the river.
Kotlas remains an important rail junction on the route toward the Komi Republic and Vorkuta, and bridges carry road and rail across the Northern Dvina. A Kotlas map poster captures the scale of the northern landscape, with the town set against rivers far wider than any of its streets.

Rail junction
Railway lines, yards and sidings run through the town toward the north and east, adding long straight lines to the curved shapes of the rivers.
Flood meadows
Low islands, sandbanks and seasonal channels surround the rivers, giving the edges of the map a loose, delicate pattern of water and land.

Pourquoi Kotlas
Une carte qui a du sens
Kotlas is a place many people pass through on the way further north, and a place others call home through long winters and white nights. A map of it makes a modest, strong print, especially for those who remember the river ice breaking in spring.
Choose your title and subtitle, keep or edit the coordinates line, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. A $9 download includes six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files, free of any watermark.
