Walled old town
The historic centre keeps its oval shape and parts of its walls. On the map it forms a small, dense island of irregular lanes inside the more regular modern street pattern.

La carte
Langen Map Poster & Print
Langen is in southern Hesse, halfway between Frankfurt and Darmstadt, on flat ground with large forests to the west and east. On the map, a small, oval-shaped old town sits in the middle, still partly enclosed by its historic walls. Around it lies a regular grid of residential and business streets, bordered by the main railway line and the motorways that run north to south through the region.
The town has an unusually high concentration of institutions for its size. It is the headquarters of Germany's air navigation service, DFS, and of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, the federal agency for vaccines and biomedical medicines. Frankfurt Airport is a short distance away across the forest.
A Langen map poster shows a town that is clearly bounded: the old core, the neat grid around it and the forest pressing in on almost every side. The border between built-up area and woodland is sharp, so the map reads with clean edges.

Forest frame
Large forests border the town, especially toward the airport to the west. They create a clear, quiet edge around the streets and make the town's footprint easy to read.
Rail and motorway
The Frankfurt to Darmstadt railway and nearby motorways run north to south past the town. These long parallel lines set the direction of the whole composition.

Pourquoi Langen
Une carte qui a du sens
Langen suits people who have worked at one of the town's institutions, commuted to Frankfurt from here, or grown up between the forest and the old walls. It is a clear, well-organised map of a place many people pass through on the way somewhere else.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, for example to mark a start date or a family name. Choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
