Loja Map Poster & Print
Loja sits in a long valley in the southern Andes of Ecuador, at an altitude of around two thousand metres. The city stretches north to south along the valley floor, following the courses of two rivers, the Zamora and the Malacatos, which run roughly parallel through the urban area before joining at the northern end of the city.
The historic centre is laid out on a colonial grid between the rivers, with squares and churches placed at regular intervals. Beyond it, the city climbs the valley slopes, where the streets become more irregular. Loja is often described as Ecuador's capital of music and culture, and it serves as a gateway to Podocarpus National Park in the mountains to the east.
A Loja map poster shows a city shaped with unusual clarity by its setting. The two rivers form strong parallel lines, the grid sits neatly between them, and the valley walls give the composition a natural frame. It is an elegant, balanced map, and one that feels distinctly Andean.

Colonial street grid
Between the rivers, the old centre follows a regular grid of blocks and squares, giving the heart of Loja an orderly pattern characteristic of Spanish colonial planning.
Valley slopes
The city climbs the hillsides on both sides of the valley, where streets curve and branch to follow the terrain, softening the outline of the regular core.

Pourquoi Loja
Une carte qui a du sens
Loja has a loyal community of people who studied, worked or grew up in the valley, many of whom now live elsewhere in Ecuador or abroad. A map of its rivers and grid is a quiet reminder of home and its musical, unhurried pace.
