Central street pattern
The built-up area forms the densest part of the drawing, a compact network of streets that stands out clearly against the open land around it.

La carte
Lucas Map Poster & Print
Lucas is a town in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, in the vast interior of the country, where distances are long and the land is broad and mostly flat. Mato Grosso is one of Brazil's great agricultural states, a region of savanna, farmland and, to the south-west, the wetlands of the Pantanal. Towns here often began as service centres for the surrounding countryside.
Many settlements in this part of Brazil follow a clear, practical plan, with straight streets laid out across level ground and main roads running out towards farms and neighbouring towns. On a map, that gives a strong sense of order at the centre and wide, empty space beyond, broken only by long roads, field tracks and the curving lines of streams.
A Lucas map poster brings the town's street pattern into focus and leaves the surrounding land open. In black and white, the contrast between the built-up area and the wide countryside becomes the main subject. It is a simple, honest composition that reflects life in Brazil's interior, where the horizon is always part of the picture.
