Granite outcrops
Rounded rock hills stand around the town. On the map they appear as empty islands that roads and paths bend around instead of crossing.

Masasi Map Poster & Print
Masasi lies inland in the Mtwara Region of southern Tanzania. It sits in a landscape known for rounded granite hills that rise straight out of the plain. The town has no rigid plan. On a map it looks like a loose network of roads and lanes that thickens around the centre and fades into scattered settlement and fields.
The surrounding district is one of the main cashew-growing areas in the country, and the harvest shapes the town's rhythm. Masasi also has a long association with Anglican mission work in southern Tanzania. From above, the most striking features are the rocky hills, which the streets curve around rather than cross.
A Masasi map poster reduces this to its essentials. There are a few main roads, a lot of fine, informal paths, and open ground where the hills stand. It is a sparse, airy composition, quite unlike a dense city plan. Many people find that it keeps a clear sense of the place, with its wide spaces and its hills.

Converging roads
Main roads from the coast and the interior meet at Masasi. They form the few strong lines in an otherwise fine, scattered network.
Open edges
The town has no hard boundary. Its lanes gradually thin into fields and farm plots, which gives the print a light, open outer margin.

Pourquoi Masasi
Une carte qui a du sens
A Masasi print often marks a personal connection, such as a childhood home, a posting or a period of work or study in southern Tanzania. You can add a title, a subtitle with the years, or the exact coordinates.
It is available in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand and Paper suit the warm, dry landscape. Classic keeps the fine network of paths crisp and easy to read.
