La carte
Mata Grande Map Poster & Print
Mata Grande lies in the western sertão of Alagoas, in northeastern Brazil, close to the borders with Pernambuco. The municipality occupies higher ground than much of the state, and on a map the town centre forms a compact cluster of streets around its main square and church, with rural roads winding outward across the hills.
The sertão is a semi-arid region, and its landscape of dry scrubland, seasonal streams and scattered farms shapes the way the area looks from above. Roads follow ridges and valleys rather than straight lines, and small settlements appear as clusters along them. The town itself is the densest point in a wide, open landscape.
A Mata Grande map poster is spare and calm. The small urban grid holds the centre, and the curving roads beyond it lead the eye out toward the edges of the sheet. It suits people with roots in the region who want a simple, honest image of their home town rather than a busy city map.
