La carte
Midland Map Poster & Print
Midland lies on the southern edge of the Llano Estacado in West Texas, and the land around it is almost perfectly flat. The town took its name from its position midway between Fort Worth and El Paso on the Texas and Pacific Railway, and its streets follow a straight grid extended block after block as the city expanded. A loop highway sweeps around its northern side.
The city is the business centre of the Permian Basin, one of the most productive oil fields in the United States, and the oil boom of the mid-twentieth century left it with a cluster of downtown office towers that earned it the nickname the Tall City. George W. Bush grew up in Midland, and Laura Bush was born here.
A Midland map poster turns that flatness into graphic order. Streets run in long parallel lines, the rail line runs straight through downtown and Interstate 20 passes along the south side. Beyond the last subdivisions, service roads and well pads scatter into the empty land, a precise image of a place built by the oil industry on open plains.

Railway line
The Texas and Pacific line that gave Midland its name runs straight through the centre, a long unbroken stroke across an otherwise orderly street plan.
Oil field edges
Past the suburbs, straight service roads and small square well pads dot the open land, a sparse geometric pattern typical of oil country.

Pourquoi Midland
Une carte qui a du sens
