Motru Map Poster & Print
Motru is a town in the west of Gorj County, in the hilly country between the Carpathian foothills and the Danube plain. It takes its name from the Motru River, which runs past the town and gives the map a winding natural line among the more regular street blocks.
The town grew around lignite mining, and the coal industry has shaped both its population and its surroundings. From above, large open workings and industrial sites appear around the settlement, contrasting with the neat blocks of flats and the smaller houses and gardens in the older parts.
A Motru map poster records a place where industry and landscape meet on the same sheet. The compact centre, the river valley and the wide, altered ground beyond it create an unusual composition, one that speaks honestly about the work that built the town.

Mining landscape
Around the town, large lignite workings and industrial areas show up as broad, irregular shapes that break with the finer pattern of residential streets.
Planned housing blocks
Apartment blocks built for mining families form a denser, more regular section of the map, clearly distinct from the looser streets of houses nearby.
