Single reef island
Nanumanga is one solid island rather than an atoll ring of islets, giving it a compact, rounded outline unlike the long lagoon shapes of many Tuvaluan islands.

Nanumanga Map Poster & Print
Nanumanga lies in the north of Tuvalu, a small nation of low coral islands and atolls scattered across the central Pacific. Unlike many of its neighbours it is not a ring of islets around a lagoon but a single reef island, compact and rounded, with a fringing reef running around its edge. On a map it is a small, solid shape in a large field of water.
The island is low and green, covered in coconut palms and other vegetation, with its village and gardens set close to the shore. Paths and tracks link the settlement with the rest of the island, and the surrounding reef marks a pale border between land and deep ocean. The scale is intimate: everything on the island sits within a short walk of the sea.
Because it is so small and so remote, a Nanumanga map poster is less about street detail and more about proportion. A single island, a thin line of reef and the Pacific on every side. For people with roots in Tuvalu, that simple shape can carry a great deal of meaning.

Fringing reef
A coral reef runs close around the coast, drawn as a fine band just offshore that separates the land from the deep surrounding ocean.
Open ocean
There is no nearby land in any direction, so the map frames a small island in a wide expanse of water, a striking contrast at any print size.

Pourquoi Nanumanga
Une carte qui a du sens
This is a map for the Tuvaluan diaspora, for anyone who has lived or worked in the islands, or for people drawn to the most remote places on earth. Its restraint makes it a quiet but personal piece.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a family name or the island's name in Tuvaluan, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint and Noir give the ocean real depth.
