On the map, the town is a fairly regular grid of blocks, clearly planned, with a main road leading east toward the state capital and smaller roads branching out into the countryside.

Irrigation canals and field boundaries cut the surrounding land into long rectangles, and the town is known in Sinaloa for its sugar cane history and its intensive farming.
