Dutch railway town
Nederland grew up around the Kansas City Southern line, and its plan still leans on the railway, with neighbourhoods spreading outward from the tracks across the flat prairie.

Nederland Map Poster & Print
Nederland lies in Jefferson County in southeast Texas. Together with Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange it makes up the Golden Triangle. The ground here is almost perfectly flat, and the map shows it in long straight avenues, evenly spaced residential blocks and a railway line running through town. To the east, the city merges with Port Neches and Groves, and their street patterns run into each other without a visible break.
The town was founded at the end of the 1890s by Dutch settlers who came with the building of the Kansas City Southern railway, which explains the name. That heritage is still visible in the Dutch Windmill Museum in Tex Ritter Park, which also holds an exhibit on the country singer. The oil boom at nearby Spindletop later reshaped the whole region.
A Nederland map poster captures a very American kind of order: a grid laid on the coastal prairie, industrial tracts at the edges, and the ditches and bayous that keep the low land drained. In black and white, the contrast between the dense blocks and the open land toward the Neches River and the marshes beyond is especially clean.

Windmill in the park
Tex Ritter Park, home of the Dutch Windmill Museum, appears as a small green block within the grid. Anyone who knows the town will recognise it as a landmark.
Golden Triangle edges
Nederland runs almost seamlessly into Port Neches and Groves, while large plant sites form broad, blank shapes that contrast with the fine residential grid.

Pourquoi Nederland
Une carte qui a du sens
Many people in the Golden Triangle grew up in one town, went to school in the next and worked at a plant in a third. A Nederland map puts that familiar network on the wall, and it makes a thoughtful gift for someone who has moved away from southeast Texas.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a graduation year or a street name, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD download costs $9, or you can order a printed matte poster with an optional wooden frame.
