Central Vista axis
The straight ceremonial line from Raisina Hill to India Gate runs through parkland and water channels. It is the backbone of the whole Lutyens plan.

La carte
New Delhi Map Poster & Print
New Delhi was planned in the early twentieth century by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker and inaugurated as the capital in 1931. From above, it looks nothing like the dense lanes of Old Delhi to the north. Wide avenues radiate from roundabouts, and they meet at angles that divide the city into large triangles and hexagons, each with generous gardens and bungalows.
The ceremonial spine runs east from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill, between the two Secretariat blocks, along Kartavya Path to India Gate. On the map it is one straight line through a web of diagonals. A New Delhi map poster brings out this formal geometry, which is among the most recognisable in any capital.
To the north lies Connaught Place, a set of concentric colonnaded rings with roads spreading out in every direction. The Yamuna flows further east, and the Ring Road loops around the wider city. Inside that loop, the planned capital still reads as a separate, deliberately designed piece of the city.

Connaught Place rings
Concentric circular roads with a round park at the centre and radial streets spreading out. It looks almost like a target set into the city grid.
Roundabout network
Dozens of circular junctions link the diagonal avenues and divide the district into large geometric plots of bungalows and gardens.

Pourquoi New Delhi
Une carte qui a du sens
New Delhi's plan appeals to anyone who likes cities as designed objects: architects, diplomats, and families who once lived in the government colonies. The radial geometry holds up at any size and brings a formal, balanced shape to a wall.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates to mark an embassy posting, a wedding or a family home. Then choose one of five styles. Noir's dark ground suits the avenues well, and Classic, Paper, Blueprint and Sand each give the plan a different temperature.
