New Tafo Map Poster & Print
New Tafo lies on the northern side of Kumasi, the capital of Ghana's Ashanti Region, and forms part of the city's continuous built-up area. Seen from above it is a fine-grained neighbourhood: short streets, small blocks and tightly spaced houses filling almost every available plot. The pattern is irregular rather than gridded, shaped over time by footpaths, family compounds and the gentle rise and fall of the ground.
Main roads run through Tafo carrying traffic between central Kumasi and the towns to the north, and they cut clear lines through the dense residential texture. Markets, schools and a hospital sit along or near these routes. Between them, narrow lanes branch and loop, and low ground along small streams shows up as thin green corridors in an otherwise built landscape.
To the south, not far away, lies Manhyia, seat of the Asantehene, the Asante king, a reminder that this is one of West Africa's great historic cities. A New Tafo map poster frames one district of Kumasi at close range, where the city's scale is felt in the density of its streets rather than in any single landmark.

Fine-grained blocks
Hundreds of small plots and short lanes produce a dense, irregular texture that looks almost woven when rendered in black and white.
Stream corridors
Low-lying ground along small watercourses stays partly open, forming narrow, winding breaks in the built fabric that help the eye read the terrain.

Pourquoi New Tafo
Une carte qui a du sens
For people from Kumasi living elsewhere, a map of their own neighbourhood often means more than a map of the whole city. New Tafo, drawn at street level, is recognisable to anyone who has walked its lanes.
