Estuary and backwaters
Rivers widen into shallow channels and islands before meeting the sea. The result is a set of layered, irregular shapes that fill the western side of the poster.

Nīlēshwar Map Poster & Print
Nīlēshwar is a town in Kasaragod district in northern Kerala, close to the Arabian Sea. Water shapes almost everything here. The Nileshwar River and the neighbouring Tejaswini reach the coast through a network of estuaries, islands and backwaters, so on a map the town sits among these channels rather than on a single clear shoreline.
The built area is loose and spread out, in the way of many Kerala towns, with houses lining roads and lanes rather than gathering into tight blocks. The coastal highway and the railway run north to south through the area and give the composition a firm spine. Smaller roads branch west toward the sea and east toward the higher ground inland.
Nīlēshwar was historically the seat of the Nileshwaram royal house, and it is known across Kerala as a centre of Theyyam, the ritual performance held at local shrines. A Nīlēshwar map poster sets the long straight lines of road and rail against the soft, branching forms of river and backwater, a balance that suits the calmer palettes especially well.

North–south spine
The highway and the railway run parallel through the town. These two long lines give structure to an otherwise dispersed settlement pattern.
Dispersed lanes
Away from the centre, houses follow narrow roads between plots and waterways. The street network is open and branching rather than laid out as a grid.

Une carte qui a du sens
