Central caldera
The island's interior is a large volcanic basin. On the poster it appears as an open, sparsely marked space at the centre, framed by roads looping around its edges.

La carte
Nisyros Map Poster & Print
Nisyros lies in the Dodecanese between Kos and Tilos, and its shape gives away its origin immediately. The island is almost circular, and at its heart sits a broad caldera, a flat-floored basin enclosed by higher ground. Roads climb from the coast up and over the rim, then descend to the crater floor, where hydrothermal craters, including the well-known Stefanos crater, can be visited on foot.
The main village and port, Mandraki, lies on the northwest coast, its dense lanes spreading below a medieval castle of the Knights of Saint John, with the monastery of Panagia Spiliani set into the rock above. Smaller villages such as Nikia and Emporios sit high on the caldera rim, looking down into the basin on one side and out to sea on the other.
A Nisyros map poster turns a volcano into a composition of concentric forms: coastline, rim roads and the open floor of the caldera within. It is a map with a clear centre and a strong sense of structure, and it appeals equally to people drawn to geology and to those who simply remember walking across the crater in the heat.

Mandraki lanes
The main village forms the densest patch of streets on the island, a close web of alleys along the northwest shore. It is the natural starting point for reading the map.
Rim villages
Villages such as Nikia and Emporios perch on the caldera's edge. Their small clusters of streets sit high on the island's ring, with roads winding up to reach them.

Pourquoi Nisyros
Une carte qui a du sens
Nisyros is a place people often describe through a single experience: walking down into a volcanic crater and smelling the sulphur. Its map is a quiet way to hold on to that, and its circular form works well on a wall, whether alone or alongside other islands.
Make the poster personal with a custom title, a subtitle such as the date of your visit, and your own coordinates line. Choose from five styles; Noir and Sand suit the volcanic subject well. Get HD digital files for $9, or a printed poster shipped from a partner near you.
