ISU campus
Illinois State University occupies a large section of the centre. Its quads and footpaths create a softer, more open pattern inside the street grid.

La carte
Normal Map Poster & Print
Normal, Illinois, takes its name from a teacher-training school. Illinois State University was founded here in 1857 as a normal school, and the town grew around it. On the map, the campus is still at the heart of the town: a large area of quads, paths and buildings that breaks the surrounding street grid just north of Uptown Normal.
Normal and Bloomington are so closely connected that their streets form one continuous urban area on the flat Illinois prairie. The grid is almost uniform, with long straight roads, rail lines crossing diagonally and the Constitution Trail following former railway routes. Uptown is organised around a circular roundabout plaza, one of the few curves in an otherwise rectangular plan.
A Normal map poster shows the typical Midwest grid and what makes this one distinctive. The campus sits as an open, irregular block in the regular pattern. The railway lines cut through the grid at an angle, and the edges of the town gradually give way to straight farm roads and fields that seem to continue beyond the frame.

Uptown circle
Uptown Normal is centred on a roundabout with a small circular park, a distinctive round shape among the straight blocks.
Prairie grid
Long straight streets run in both directions and join seamlessly with Bloomington. At the edges, the grid becomes farm roads and square fields.

Pourquoi Normal
Une carte qui a du sens
Normal is a place many people pass through at an important time: university years, a first job, a first apartment. A map of the campus and the surrounding streets is a simple way to remember those years.
Add a graduation year, a class name or a personal message to the title and subtitle, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. It comes as HD files or a printed poster.
