Norwich Map Poster & Print
Norwich grew within a bend of the River Wensum, and on a map its medieval centre is a web of narrow lanes and irregular streets. The line of the old city walls can still be traced in the arc of roads around it. For much of the Middle Ages, Norwich was one of the largest and wealthiest cities in England.
Two landmarks anchor the centre. Norwich Cathedral, begun in 1096, has one of the tallest spires in England and a large cloister and close beside the river. On a mound to the west stands the Norman castle keep, and between them the market square fills with stalls. The city is also known for the unusually large number of medieval parish churches that survive.
A Norwich map poster shows the river curling around the eastern edge of the old city and the inner ring road following the line of the walls. Inside it is a dense, irregular street pattern that has barely changed in plan for centuries. Beyond it, Victorian and later suburbs spread outward along the main roads.

Medieval lanes
The centre retains an irregular pattern of narrow streets and lanes, such as the cobbled Elm Hill, which give the map a fine, dense texture.
Line of the walls
The inner ring road broadly follows the path of the medieval walls, drawing a clear arc around the historic core of the city.

Pourquoi Norwich
Une carte qui a du sens
Norwich is a university city, a county town and a hometown for many people across Norfolk. Its medieval plan makes the map instantly recognisable and more detailed than most modern cities of its size.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, adding a college, a street or a year. Five styles are available: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper is well suited to a historic city.
