La carte
Onyar Map Poster & Print
Onyar is a town in the Ili region of northwestern Xinjiang, east of the city of Yining. The Ili valley is one of the greenest parts of the region. It is a wide plain between mountain ranges, watered by rivers flowing down from the Tian Shan and farmed intensively for grain, fruit and other crops.
On the map the town has a fairly regular layout, with straight streets and rectangular blocks set in a landscape divided by roads and field boundaries. The pattern reflects the flat ground of the plain and its long history of farming. Settlements are linked by roads running across open, cultivated land.
An Onyar map poster shows a quieter side of Xinjiang than the desert images most people know: a green valley town, orderly and open, with the land around it carefully divided. It is a clear, balanced composition for anyone connected to the Ili region, or anyone who has travelled through it.

Irrigated fields
Around the town, roads and channels divide the farmland into long rectangular plots, a strong linear texture that fills the edges of the map.
Ili plain
The broad valley floor leaves wide open space around the settlement, so the town appears as a compact cluster set within a wider pattern of fields.
