Pomezia Map Poster & Print
Pomezia was founded in 1938–39 as one of the new towns built on land reclaimed from the Pontine Marshes south of Rome. Its plan still shows that origin. The streets gather around a formal central square with a church and town hall, and the main roads leave from there in clear, deliberate directions toward Rome, the hills and the coast.
The municipality stretches well beyond the town itself. Toward the Tyrrhenian Sea lies Torvaianica, a seaside district with long beaches, while Pratica di Mare stands on the site of ancient Lavinium, traditionally linked to the legend of Aeneas. The Via Pontina runs past Pomezia, and business parks and warehouses fill much of the flat land between town and motorway.
