The community occupies a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, and State Road A1A runs along most of its length. It is best known for golf. The PGA Tour has its headquarters here, and TPC Sawgrass hosts The Players Championship, whose seventeenth hole, an island green surrounded by water, is one of the most recognisable holes in the sport.
